Private funeral for Harriet K. Vail, mother of retired Marin County Librarian, Virginia V. Keating, was held Saturday at the Harry M. Williams Mortuary in San Rafael.
Mrs. Vail, 95, a resident of Marin since the San Francisco earthquake and fire in 1906, died Thursday at her daughterís home at 472 Miller Creek Road, Marinwood.
A native of French Camp, Calif., Mrs. Vail had lived in California all her life. She was the widow of Frank A. Vail.
About 10 years ago, Mrs. Vail was in the news when she took on the San Anselmo School District board. The home she had lived in at 130 Ross Avenue for 54 years was one of five condemned for enlargement of the Wade Thomas School and she fought the move for several months before moving to Marinwood with her daughter and son-in-law, Richard Keating.
In addition to her daughter, she is also survived by a son, Frank A. Vail of Vacaville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marin County Humane Society.
A Death Notice mentions Mrs. Vailís nephew, Oliver Wesley Kay of San Anselmo.
