George Leo Elwell
Died unexpectedly on December 11, 2001 in Sarasota, Florida while visiting his daughter and son-in-law. He was born on December 4, 1924 in San Francisco. George was a third generation San Franciscan and a fourth generation Californian. He was a graduate of San Francisco's Washington High School in 1942, a member of the Society of California Pioneers and former member of the Olympic and Concordia Clubs. He founded Elwell Trucking in 1951, and was known throughout the industry for his business integrity and service standards. He retired from Elwell Trucking in 1989. George was a resident of Kentfield, California in Marin County since 1954. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elsie M. Elwell, and two children George R. Elwell of Ivins, Utah and Carter C. Donovan of Sarasota, Florida, his sister Alice Somers of San Jose, California, two half brothers Michael and James Elwell of Santa Barbara, California, three grandchildren, Angelina, Jeremy and Rose Elwell, several cousins and many great friends. Those who knew George will always remember him for his enthusiasm of life, his sense of humor, and of course his running commentary on life which will be sorely missed. George was cremated in a quiet family service on Monday, December 17, 2001. In celebration of his life, a Bon Voyage Party will be held on Friday, December 21, 2001.
