Services held for West Marinís oldest resident
Five months after her 100th birthday, Point Reyes Station resident Jennie L. Dawson died last Wednesday in a local hospital.
She was West Marinís oldest resident at the time of her death.
A native of Half Moon Bay, Mrs. Dawson was a Bolinas school teacher from 1903 to 1904. In 1913 she married a merchant seaman and made Marin County her permanent home.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Dawson also taught at Marshall and Halleck schools.
She moved from Corte Madera to Point Reyes Station in 1948, living in a 16-foot-by-16-foot toolshed before her daughter and her daughterís son built a house on the Highway 1 property. She was an avid gardener.
A large gathering of family and friends last January celebrated Mrs. Dawsonís 100th birthday, but West Marinís most senior citizen appeared unimpressed by her age.
ďIt doesnít feel any different,Ē she said. ďI donít give it any thought at all Ö Iím 100, thatís all.Ē
Mrs. Dawson is survived by a daughter, Lois McDonald, and a grandson, Larry McDonald, both of Point Reyes Station.
Private services were held last Wednesday at Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo.
