HEMPHILL, Edgar S. -- In Stockton, California August 6, 2001 Edgar S. Hemphill, retired Bank of America executive, died in Stockton on August 6. He was 90. Mr. Hemphill was born in Berkeley and started his banking career in 1928. He was transferred to Red Bluff in 1934 where he met his future wife, Maradene McClure, who died in 1999. After working in various branches, Mr. Hemphill retired in 1976 as vice president and manager of the main office of Bank of America in Stockton. Active in numerous civic organizations, Mr. Hemphill was also an avid duck hunter, fisherman and golfer, remaining a member of the Stockton Country Club until 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Nan H. Cook of San Francisco; grandsons Michael F. McGinn of San Francisco and John E. McGinn of Bolinas; and his brother, Joseph Hemphill of Lodi. Private funeral services have been held. DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr., Stockton, CA in charge of arrangements.
