RENATO GELSI-MEDEOT

A memorial service for Renato Gelsi-Medeot of San Rafael will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at St. Rita’s Church in Fairfax.

Gelsi-Medeot died Saturday at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 77.

He was the retired head of the Gelsi-Medeot Advertising Agency and also had broadcast the Italian-American Hour in San Francisco for 27 years.

Gelsi-Medeot was born in Trieste, Italy, and was a graduate of the Italian Nautical Academy. He served as a cadet with the Italian Royal Navy and as an officer with the Italian Merchant Marine.

He came to this country in 1929, living in San Francisco before moving to Marin about 35 years ago.

After World War II, he was decorated with the Italian Star of Solidarity for his relief efforts for Italy.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Gelsi-Medeot of San Rafael; one son, Leroy Gelsi-Medeot of San Anselmo; and three grandchildren.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the Linus Pauling Institute of Science, 2700 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park.
