Joe Joseph, 61, Deputy Clerk of County, Dies
Joseph (Joe) Francis Joseph, 61, for more than a decade deputy clerk of Marin county, died today at his home on Lagunitas road, Ross, after a long illness.
Private services are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday at Guy W. Jenness mortuary, San Anselmo.
Individual memorial services will be conducted at the mortuary starting at 8 p.m. tomorrow by the San Rafael lodge of t he Elks and the Seapoint Parlor of Native Sons of the Golden West. He was a member of both organizations.
County Clerk George Jones, under whom Joseph served for many years, said that Joseph was born and raised in Sausalito.
He was a member of the Marin county Republican central committee.
He was first employed by the predecessors of the Northwestern Pacific railroad starting as a ticket collector and working up to a depot master.
Later he was manager of the Monticello Steamship company and continued to work for that company after it came under the ownership of the Golden Gate ferries. He entered service at the clerk’s office when the ferry company ceased Marin runs.
Joseph who had been confined to his bed for months, is survived by his wife Mrs. Lola A. Joseph and a daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Dodwy of San Francisco.
Friends may call at the mortuary to pay their respects after noon tomorrow.
