Wife’s Homecoming Causes Fatal Heart Attack for Garloff
Henry R. Garloff, slip-tender at the San Rafael-Richmond ferry pier, dropped dead from heart failure last Thursday night at his home near the pier.
The fatal attack was attributed to over-excitement and joy over the return of Garloff’s wife from a Richmond hospital.
Mrs. Garloff was in an ambulance aboard the ferry as it nosed into the slip, but she never saw her husband alive. He passed away before she could be assisted into the home.
The San Rafael Fire Department rushed a resuscitator in an effort to revive the man, but it was to no avail.
Garloff was a native of Minnesota and had been employed by the ferry company for 14 years. Besides his wife, two daughters, his parents, three sisters and three brothers survive.
The daughters, Mrs. Emma Ann Hibbard, Richmond; Gertrude Garloff, San Quentin, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Garloff, San Anselmo, parents; Mrs. Ida Apperly, Mrs. Ann Northway and Mrs. Edna Hammond, sisters; Emil, Fred, and Walter Garloff, brothers.
Funeral service was held Saturday at the Keaton & Dusel chapel, with interment at Sebastopol cemetery.
