Phillip Sanfilippo, 86, of 1826-A Virginia Avenue, Novato, died Saturday in a local hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Trombia, Italy, in 1877. He came to the United States with his parents when he was 12 years old. He lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, until moving to San Francisco 60 years ago.
He started in the concrete contracting business in San Francisco, later going into the home construction business. He moved to Novato 20 years ago, continuing in the same business. He subdivided the land and named Sun Lane in Novato.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lucia Young, and a son, Joseph Sanfilippo, both of Novato; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Solimine of San Francisco; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 8 o’clock tonight at the Redwood Chapel Funeral Home. Mass of Requiem will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Novato.
The California Death Index gives his birth date as November 5, 1877.
