Mrs. Bertha Wood Dies In Car Crash
Bertha Ruth Wood, 55, of Woodacre, wife of noted metalsmith and jewelry designer, Seth Wood, was killed in a car-truck crash Saturday morning on Petaluma-Point Reyes Road, almost two miles south of Hicks Valley Road.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Mrs. Wood was thrown from her car at 10:35 a.m. and taken to Novato General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Mrs. Wood worked at Security Pacific National Bank, San Francisco, where she was chief of the filing department for the past 10 years.
Officers said she was driving north when she took a left curve on the wrong side of the roadway, attempted to correct when she saw an oncoming southbound pickup truck and swerved back and forth.
Her car struck a pickup truck driven by James Anthony Koller Jr., 32, of Sebastopol, who had swerved into an embankment along his side of the road to avoid a collision, officers said.
The impact spun Mrs. Wood's car and she was thrown to the pavement, landing partially under the left side of Koller's pickup, officers said.
Mrs. Wood was the 38th traffic fatality in Marin this year as compared to 37 at this time last year.
Private funeral was held at Keaton's Mortuary, San Rafael.
