James Harvey Hendrick
Passed away Sunday night, February 10, 2002 at his home in Kentfield, after a brief illness caused by lung cancer. He would have been 70 years old on March 3.
He was born, and grew up, in Covington, Tennessee, near Memphis. He graduated from the University of Mississippi, "Ole Miss", and served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne at the close of the Korean War.
Jim moved to Marin in 1966. He was a prominent real estate broker and a member of the Marin Association of Realtors for 36 years. He was a past director of the Association and served several times on it's Professional Standards Committee. He opened his first real estate office in Kentfield in 1969 and was active in the area until just before his death. Jim was a "people" person. He thoroughly enjoyed working with people and their real estates needs. In many cases, "clients" became close personal friends, as did their children. As these former children became adults, they came back to Jim to help them as their parents had done.
He is survived by his brother, Richard S. "Rick" Hendrick of Dallas; his friend, Duane P. Knutson of the family home in Kentfield; his business partner for over 30 years, D. Ralph McClurg of San Anselmo; and his beloved dogs and constant companions, Bob and Wally.
There will be a Memorial Service at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ross at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 15, and a Graveside Service at Mumford Cemetery, Covington Tennessee at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9.
The family requests no flowers. Those wishing to do so may make a memorial contribution in Jim's name to Marin Hospice, St. John's, or a charity of their choice.
