Charles Russell Johnson
Passed away peacefully at home, in San Rafael, with his family at his side in February 14, 2002 at age 88.
Russell was born on March 29, 1913 in San Francisco. He was a graduate of Galileo High School and the University of California Berkeley.
After wartime service in the Army Air Corp. Russell spent his working career in the redwood lumber business with the Union Lumber Company of Fort Bragg, California founded by his grandfather C.R. Johnson. He was also president of the California Western Railroad (Skunk Train).
Russell was active in several clubs and associations including The San Francisco Boys and Girls Club where he served on the board of directors for many years. An avid boater, Russell was a member of the Marin Yacht Club and the St. Francis Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Bohemian Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Frances, his sons Russell of Truckee, CA and Royce of Brockway, CA, his daughter Carolyn of Sebastopol, CA and four grandchildren.
At his request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Mendocino Railroad Society, Hospice or the charity of your choice.
