BLOCK, Harold Alan -- Died peacefully at his home in San Rafael on December 18, 2001 after a long illness. he was the beloved husband of 60 years to Helen, loving father to Mara Palmer, "Papa" to Amanda & Sara Donnelly & two great granddaughters. Hal was born in San Francisco April 28, 1911, living there for 66 years. He graduated from Stanford University and U.C. Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. During World War Two, Hal enlisted in The Marine Corp at age 32 as a private and ultimately rose to the rank of Major. Professionally, he became a senior partner in the firm of Dinkelspiel and Dinkelspiel where he specialized in corporate bankruptcy law for 34 years. Retiring in 1977 to Napa, he continued to practice law until he was 80 years old. Hal's hobbies included data processing and music. However, he was an especially avid golfer travelling all over the world, with his wife Helen, to play the game including at Saint Andrews in Scotland. No funeral service will be held but a memorial will be celebrated at a later date.
