Harry H. Fong
The funeral service for Harry H. Fong, 70, longtime operator of Harry’s Mart in Fairfax, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo.
Fong died Sunday at the University of California Hospital in San Francisco after an illness.
He was a member of Presidio-Parnassus Lodge, Free and Accepted masons, San Francisco, and a charter member of the Fairfax Lions Club.
Fong was a native of China who moved to San Francisco in 1922. He worked in the family grocery store in San Anselmo, Inverness and Mill Valley, before it moved to Fairfax in 1927.
In 1939 he opened Harry’s Mart and ran the store until he retired in 1974.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Fong of Fairfax; two sons, David Fong of Berkeley and Dr. Lawrence Fong of Fairfax; a daughter, Norma Fong-Lydon of Laos; and three grandchildren.
Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers that memorial gifts be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, San Francisco, or Guide Dogs for the Blind, San Rafael.
