FARLEY – Wellman, age 90, a resident of Marin County for 45 years. Lived in Tiburon for 25 years and Mill Valley for 20 years. Prior to that he had resided in Berkeley. He was born in Claremont, Calif., on Jan. 1, 1909. He attended Berkeley High School, Antioch College and the University of California at Berkeley. During WWII, he was a chief bosun’s mate on anti-sub patrols in t he Panama region. Mr. Farley was a grandson of the founder of Wellman, Peck and C o., which began its operation in San Francisco in 1849 manufacturing coffee, spices, jams and grocery items. Mr. Farley served as secretary and treasurer of the company, which ceased operations in 1954.
He was a former member of the St. Francis Yacht Club and he was well-known in yachting circles.
Mr. Farley is survived by his ex-wife, Marie Farley, of Mill Valley; a brother, Bruce Farley of Victoria, British Columbia; and four nephews and nieces.
He passed away on Feb. 17, 1999, at 7:30 a.m. His remains are being handled by the Neptune Society and his ashes are being scattered at sea.
