Pneumonia Is Fatal To Joseph Merla
Joseph Merla, an employee of the Water District for a number of years, died Wednesday afternoon from pneumonia which he contracted following an accident, at West End, Feb. 11, when he was struck by an automobile during a heavy rain storm.
Merla was crossing the street at the time, and according to police, the accident was unavoidable. The driver of the car, S. W. Benepe, offered all assistance possible.
Merla is survived by his widow, Celestine Merla; his children, Lewis and Henry Merla and Mrs. Guido Leonardi. He was 65 years of age and a member of Court Guiseppi Verdi, F. of A.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the chapel of Keaton and Dusel, and a requiem mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. in St. Raphael’s Church. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
