MRS. SPOONER MEETS TRAGIC DEATH
Mrs. Sarah Spooner, aged mother of Mrs. J. Shakespear of Mill Valley, met a tragic death at the home of her daughter in Park avenue, Mill Valley, Wednesday, when she succumbed to burns received on the previous morning.
Mrs. Spooner entered a darkened room early Tuesday morning and lighted a match. The head of the match broke away from the stem and set fire to the aged woman’s clothing. As the flames leaped up around her Mrs. Spooner raced into the yard calling loudly for assistance. She was so badly burned before her daughter could extinguish the flames that she never recovered consciousness.
Mrs. Shakespear, who was in the second story of the home at the time of the accident, is prostrated at the tragedy. Mrs. Spooner was 81 years of age.
The inquest was held in Mill Valley on Thursday evening by Coroner Sawyer, the verdict being death by accidental burning.
