ELLINOR COLLINS AIRD
A memorial service for Ellinor Collins Aird, longtime Mill Valley resident and community volunteer, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Community Church of Mill Valley.
Mrs. Aird, who was 78, died at her home Sunday, July 24, 1988, after a lengthy struggle with cancer.
She was born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1933. After graduate studies in social work at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked both as a volunteer and professional social worker for the Children’s Protective Society of San Francisco.
In 1935, she married Dr. Robert B. Aird, a physician who later was chairman of the Department of Neurology at the University of California at San Francisco.
The couple moved to Mill Valley in 1944.
Mrs. Aird traveled widely with her husband to medical meetings, lecture tours and vacations. She also supported his work by entertaining many neurologists visiting from the East Coast, Europe and Asia.
She also participated in activities in the Mill Valley Community Church, Redwoods retirement residence, a French language group and the Doctors’ Wives of the University of California.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Aird is survived by two daughters, Katharine Aird of Petersburg, Ill., and Polly Aird of Bellevue, Wash.; two sons, John Aird of Soquel, Santa Cruz county, and Bruce Aird of Ridgewood, N.J.; two sisters, Katharine Collins Hayes of Kentfield and Margaret Collins of Bryn Mawr; and six grandchildren.
