A memorial service for Robert W. Johnson of San Andreas, Calaveras County, a former Marin resident and principal in the Larkspur School District, will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Holy Innocents Church in Corte Madera.

He died Saturday in an airplane crash. He was 57.

Johnson was born in Minneapolis. He held bachelorís and masterís degrees from San Francisco State College.

He was a teacher at the Neil Cummins School in Corte Madera for five years before he was appointed principal of the San Clemente School in 1961. He served in that post until 1974, when he decided to return to teaching. He retired in 1976.

In 1978, he moved to San Andreas after living in Marin for 27 years. He was active in real estate and investments during the past few years.

He was active in many civic organizations, including the Marin chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, Bruce Johnson; two daughters, Nancy Johnson and Dorothy Zarate; a sister, Dorothy Whitcomb of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, John Johnson of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

The family prefers memorial donations to a favorite childrenís organization.
