A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Keatonís Mortuary in San Rafael for Paul Mendelsohn of Greenbrae, a longtime Marin resident, businessman and community volunteer.
Mr. Mendelsohn, who was 64, died unexpectedly Sunday at Marin General Hospital.
He had come to this country from Germany in 1939, living in New York until he joined the American Army in 1940. He served in Europe during World War II.
After the war, he worked as a government employee serving as liason with various countries that held war criminals.
During the Nuremberg trials, Mr. Mendelsohn worked for the American government. Subsequently, he worked for a time for the CIA.
In 1949, Mr. Mendelsohn and his wife, Peggy, moved to Marin County. He went into the insurance and real estate field, spending the last 16 years of his career as an investment and stockbroker. He retired in 1984 and began devoting time to volunteering with numerous organizations, including Marin General Hospital and United Way.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Mendelsohn is survived by a daughter, Sue Peisert of San Rafael; a son, David Mendelsohn of Kentfield; and one grandson.
The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
