The Rev. HERRICK J. LANE
Private services have been in Monterey for the Rev. Herrick J. Lane, retired Presbyterian minister who lived in San Anselmo for many years.
Lane died at his home in Monterey last Wednesday after a short illness. He was 90.
Lane was born in Chicago, the son of a minister. He lived and worked as a banker in Los Angeles until deciding to enter the ministry. In 1922 he graduated from the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo.
He served as a pastor in San Jose and Camas, Wash. until 1931 when he returned to California to serve as pastor of several churches and do relief work on the Berkeley waterfront.
In 1945 he and his family returned to Marin and he became a member of the staff of the seminary where he had studied.
In 1957 he retired from the seminary and took a part time job as minister of visitation for the First Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo and later became assistant pastor the San Rafael Presbyterian Church.
Hiking and camping were Lane’s favorite pastimes and when he was in his 80s, he compiled a list of hiking trails in Marin. He continued his annual climb to the top of Mount Tamalpais when he was an octogenarian.
Six months ago he and his wife moved to Monterey.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel; one daughter, Gail Lane Roy of Monterey, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo.
