A private memorial service will be held for Edward Joe Nicholson, a former park maintenance supervisor for the Gallinas Village Community Services District.

Nicholson died Tuesday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 68.

A native of Canada, Nicholson came to the United States as a young man and later became a citizen. In San Francisco he worked for the St. Francis Hotel for many years. He moved to Marin in 1950 while still operating a cleaning business in San Francisco.

After retiring in 1972 he began work with the community services district. He was supervisor of parks until the first of this year.

He was a member of the Whistlestoppers, the Santa Venetia Stars, the Santa Rosa Gymkhana Club and the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Larkspur.

Nicholson is survived by his sister, Dorothy McAtee of Twain Harte, Tuolomne County.
