Death of Miss Elliott
After an illness of several months’ duration, Miss Mary Alice Elliott entered into the rest that remaineth for the people of God on Saturday morning, September 2nd. So closed a life of self-devotion, of unbounded kindness and service.
When only 19, she assumed full charge of her orphaned sister and brothers, consecrating herself to the task of rearing these little ones, through whom her life work is perpetrated and the influence of her character extended far beyond the present generation.
She loved simplicity and expressed a wish that there would be for her no funeral sermon nor floral offerings. It was to a sobbing congregation that the pastor, Rev. J. M. Cutting said a few touching words concerning the sweetness and purity of the soul that had fled. From the church that she loved so well, the body was taken to Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery and laid to rest with dear ones who had gone before.
The bereaved family includes a sister, Mrs. M. E. Coyt, and 4 brothers, Capt. William Elliott, Messrs. Thomas, Nelson and Pierce Elliott.
