Another Sausalito pioneer has been taken away by the death of Mrs. Rosalina Garcia last week at the age of eighty years. She was the mother of Mrs. J. V. Bem and Manuel Garcia and had been a resident of Sausalito for more than forty years.
The late Manuel Garcia, her husband, was an employee of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad for twenty-one years. A record of distinguished service stands to his credit as a veteran of the Civil War. As a gunner’s helper he was one of thirty-five men saved out of a crew of 430 when the historic gunboat “Congress” was sunk by the Confederate ironclad “Merrimac.”
Mrs. Garcia was a charter member of P.P.E.C., Sausalito Council. Solemn high mass was held at the funeral at Star of the Sea Church on Friday, interment in Fernwood cemetery.
