Private funeral was held today for George Wuestefeld of San Rafael, a retired San Quentin correctional officer.
Wuestefeld, 82, died Sunday at a local convalescent hospital after an illness of four months.
He was born in San Francisco and lived there until moving to Marin about 30 years ago. His home was at 28 Villa Avenue.
He served with the Army in Belgium and France during World War I.
Before going to San Quentin, where he worked 13 years, Wuestefeld worked as a bakery salesman.
He was a member of the California State Employees Association and the Retired States Employees Association.
Wuestefeld’s son, George Jr., preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; two brothers, Henry Wuestefeld of Sonoma County and Alfred Wuestefeld of Fairfax; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
The family prefers contributions to a favorite charity.
