Died peacefully at his home in San Rafael, on April 23, 2002. His family was with him during his last few weeks and he will be deeply missed by all of them. Eugene was born on September 21, 1915, in Harbin, China. As a youth he loved the water and worked on a river taxi on the Sungeri River near Harbin. He married his wife Helen of 65 years in 1937 and together they immigrated to San Francisco where they began an exciting life in their new country. Eugene worked as a painter on the Golden Gate Bridge and then in the Alameda Naval Shipyards during WWII. After the war, he established his Orloff Auto Body Shop in San Francisco, eventually moving his shop to 1970 McAllister in the city with a second shop at 38 Geary in San Rafael. Eugene spent his free time on reconstructing a Naval Air Sea Rescue boat which he christened "Orel". He and his family spent years vacationing on the Orel. Known by all as "DADA" and his wife as "MAMA BOO", he was Santa Claus to all of us. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen; his children Tatiana, Eugene and Michael; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral Services are on Saturday, April 27th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 102 Ross Avenue, San Anselmo. A Vigil will be held on Friday, April 26, 2002, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church at 6:30 p.m. Burial at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery. KEATON MORTUARY 1022 E Street, San Rafael 415-453-0571.
