Rose L. Kaplan
Teacher and author
Services for Rose L. Kaplan, a longtime resident of Novato, will be tomorrow in San Francisco.
Mrs. Kaplan, a Novato teacher and published author, died Sept. 17 at the age of 72.
Mrs. Kaplan graduated with honors from University of Chicago. After earning a masterís degree in fine arts history she went on to teach high school and junior high college in Evanston, Ill.
She settled with her husband in Novato in the mid-1950s. Mrs. Kaplan taught at San Jose Junior High and later at Lu Sutton Elementary. She taught in the Novato school district for 24 years. After retiring, she worked as a consultant for the Novato Enrichment Care Program for about eight years.
After her daughter Ellen died of bone cancer in 1972, Mrs. Kaplan wrote a novel about her daughter titled ďA Short Life Long Remembered.Ē She also wrote another novel published in the early 1990s. Mrs. Kaplanís novels were published under her maiden name of Rose Levit.
Mrs. Kaplan enjoyed traveling with her husband.
She served on the Novato flood control board and was a member of the Marin Interfaith Council. She also was a member of the Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Max R. Kaplan of Novato, and one daughter, Jana Kaplan of Sacramento.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Sinai Memorial Chapel, 1501 Divisadero St. at Geary, San Francisco. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Cancer Research.
