MAN IS PINNED BENEATH AUTO, FATALLY HURT
San Rafael Citizen, Caught Under Car in Crash, Dies in Hospital
Pinned beneath his automobile after it overturned when he struck a parked car on Fourth Street near Grand Avenue last night at 8:45, Mario Antonio “Tony” Regalia, 25, of 24 Valencia Street, suffered a fractured skull and other injuries which caused his death early this morning at the Cottage Hospital.
Regalia who was a gardener in the employ of Mrs. J. A. Buck of Magnolia and Acacia Streets, had turned into Fourth Street from grand Avenue when the accident happened. His car did not straighten as he made the turn and crashed into the parked machine of W. F. Zubler of San Anselmo and turned completely over pinning him underneath it. His head was crushed under the side of the car and bystanders lifted the machine in order to extricate the injured man. He was removed to the Cottage Hospital where he was treated by Dr. Harry O. Hund and Dr. Robert Furlong.
Whether or not the steering gear locked when Regalia made the turn, causing the crash, is not known. Both his car and that of Zubler were badly damaged in the accident.
With his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Regalia, the victim of the accident had come to San Rafael eight years ago. The family resided on Valencia Street.
The body was removed to the parlors of Keaton and Dusel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at nine o’clock at St. Raphael’s Church where a requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul.
