Jones Left Estate of $127,232
The late County Clerk George S. Jones, who died of a heart attack on March 14 last year, left an estate worth $127,232, according to an appraiser’s report filed with Marin Superior Court.
Funeral expenses and other costs bring the total distributed assets to $120,348, Lee V. Holman, inheritance tax appraiser, reported.
Of this amount, Jones’ widow Dorothy would get $13,394. Jones’ daughter Agnes M. Nathanson, and his two sons, G. Paul and Walter S. Jones, would each get $32,317. His five grandchildren would get $2,000 each.
The widow, Dorothy C. Jones, has hired attorney Robert M. Davies of Los Gatos to contest the suggested distribution. She contends not all the assets of her late husband’s estate are included in the petition for final distribution. For example, she claims that Jones had a partnership interest in Matt A. Graham and Associates and also some corporate stock in Caterpillar Tractor Co.
Mrs. Jones, who married the late county clerk in January of 1953, maintains she is entitled to one-half the estate.
In his last will, Jones left his widow his insurance, household furniture and all his retirement benefits as a county employee. He left $2,000 each to his five grandchildren, and the balance of his assets to be divided equally among his three children.
A hearing on the final distribution is set for May 13 in Marin Superior Court.
