Every once in a while I check for anything on Manning's Cafeteria. My dad, William Jo Burris, (Bill Burris), was a manager for the Manning's in San Francisco in the early 1940s. He met my mom at the store when she transferred down from Seattle and they married three weeks later. I believe a supervisor above him was a woman named Ann Ludden. I've always wondered why I remember her name since I was only a few years old at the time, having been born in July of 1940. Many years later in the late 1950s and 1960s my mom began working again at the Manning's in Anaheim.

When I was a kid around 1953 or so, I had to take the Greyhound bus from Corona del Mar to Long Beach to get to my orthodontist. Walking back from the dentist to the bus station, my folks always gave me money to eat lunch at the Manning's in Long Beach. Good memory.
