FamilySearch
FamilySearch.org is the genealogy internet extension of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [LDS] (aka Mormons). Genealogy is a significant endeavor for them and they are quite willing to work with non-church members. SFgenealogy has and continues to proudly work with them to digitize local collections.
They have publicly accessible genealogy branch libraries, Family History Centers [FHC], in many of their locations as well as their main library in Salt Lake City, Utah. The local centers often have microfilm for their local area. If the center does not have a specific microfilm, they can be ordered at a nominal cost. They are in the process of digitizing all of their records and making them accessible through their FamilySearch web site (you will need to sign up for a free account).
Family History Centers and Affiliate Libraries
- California Genealogical Society in Oakland is an Affiliate Library.
- Some of the family history centers also provide volunteer assistance and periodically hold genealogy classes as well:
