transcribed by <> Telephone Directory, San Francisco, California Pacific States Telephone and Telegraph Company February, 1903 page v APPOINTMENTS BY TELEPHONE AND UNCOMPLETED SWITCHES — Charges for appointments by telephone and un­completed switches must be paid for in advance, or charged to subscriber's Telephone when properly authorized, as follows: The rate is 25 Cents, except 1. In cases where the regular tariff is less than 25c, the rate for an uncompleted switch is the same as the minimum rate. 2. In cases where the regular tariff is No. 34, 35, 36, 37, or 38, the rate for an uncompleted switch is 50 Cents. Where it is necessary to send a messenger for party wanted, the messenger charge will be added. Where no conversation is held, but party is given information as may be obtained, such as "Party called for out of town" "Party called for sick and cannot come" "Party called for has left for another town" "Party called for cannot come to telephone at present" the charge will be retained by the Company, but if the conversation takes place any time within twenty—four hours after the first call, it will be applied in payment for the switch.
